The swallowtail (Papilio machaeon) is the UK's largest butterfly. A true Norfolk speciality species, the swallowtail butterfly can be found in the wet fenland and marshes of the Norfolk Broads. Swallowtail caterpillars feed on milk-parsley and adults can be seen nectaring from flowers such as thistles and ragged robin. The butterflies can often be spotted during the summer at Broadland nature reserves like NWT Hickling Broad and Marshes.
